Hillary's Convention Speech

Dressed in an orange pantsuit, Hillary Clinton gave a wonderful speech last night at the DNC convention, although in my opinion the speech was mostly about her, and what a superb job she has done during her 35 years "in the trenches." I tried to keep track unless I miscounted, she mentioned Barack Obama by name 12 times, and spoke about herself 22 times.

Hillary was being honored for her accomplishments for being a serious contender for the White House, I felt that she was having trouble letting go of the dream. Bill sitting in the audience wiped tears from his eyes, as Hillary poured accolade upon accolade upon herself. Perhaps a shattered dream, Hillary not only being the first woman president gone, but the first First Lady to become president and a former president to return to the White House as First Spouse.

While Hillary was heaping the praises upon herself, I thought I detected a hint of well-controlled seething from Michelle Obama. After all, Hillary was supposed to be praising Barack not herself, she even threw in Bill once for good measure which Bill was more than happy to accept. Yes, all those global challenges that Bill Clinton faced while in the White House. I don't remember him doing very much to address those problems; maybe if he had we wouldn't have the problems we do now.

Hillary mentioned that Michelle Obama would make a great first lady for America. "Americans are also fortunate that Joe Biden will be at Barack Obama's side." Is it just me or does that sound like a dig at Senator Obama's inexperience? "He (Biden) is a strong leader and a good man. He understands both the economic stresses here at home and the strategic challenges abroad. He is pragmatic, tough and wise." Senator Obama understands the problems facing Americans, she said little about his accomplishments during his time in the Illinois legislature or in the U.S. Senate. Is this another hint that Senator Obama lacks experience?

Something that struck me as funny, some of the hats people were wearing. Some of them reminded me of the old game show Let's Make a Deal. I almost expected to see Monty Hall walk down one of the aisle and asking someone to pick curtain number one, curtain number two or curtain number three. If the supporters select curtain number two, to reveal an elephant, is that the deal Hillary wants them to make?
