Food Safety

It is bad enough that products imported from China are tainted with a host of problems, now we have problems with products here in the United States. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has found serious problems at Peanut Corp. of American.

The problems at Peanut Corp of America includes
mold, roaches and a leaking roof.  I have known restaurants that have been shut down for less. The worst part about this incident is that the company was aware of the problems but continued to produce and ship the contaminated products. See list of products recalled. See inspection report.  Lucky for those responsible, that their company is not in China where they could find themselves with a death sentence.

According to
USA TODAY reports that senior congressional and state officials called for a federal probe of possible criminal violations at the Georgia plant. Rep. Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn) said "can only be described as reprehensible and criminal." I fully agree with her on this. I am not suggesting to follow China's example for the death penalty, but prison terms for such negligence would not be unacceptable especially if such negligence resulted in death which is the case here.

Americans expect food to be safe. especially when it comes to children. This should have never been allowed to begin with, and steps must be taken to prevent this incidents happening in the future. My suggestion to congress would be to put more money to the FDA to hire additional inpectors. Creating jobs isn't that Obama's goal?
