Making a Difference
Children start asking questions early and they expect correct answers. If you don't give them the answers, someone else will. You cannot hide the world from children. Your sins will find out and come back to bite you and your family. Numbers 32:23 But if ye will not do so, ye have sinned against the LORD; and be sure that your sin will find you out.
The more Christian help you get, the more voices there are for prayers. Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am In the midst of them. You cannot smother children, but you can provide them with lots of ears.
Honesty and trust make secrets less necessary. Having a safe base to go to in times of doubt or when questions arise can make a difference. Parents may not always be the ones that children turn to. One cannot pour God into someone else.
Understanding that the Bible is much more than a book of "NO" can make a lasting impression. Teach the practical and the consequences. Let children see the love, the promise, and the consequences. Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Forgiveness is a big word that takes much work. Stay the course and don't change the messages. The Bible is for whomsoever.
Everyone is not doing everything. The world has a message of getting with it or being out of it. Peer pressure starts at the hospital. All children have a mental yardstick that they measure themselves by. The world fans the flames of discontent and desire. You cannot hide desires and questions from children. Again, they will find answers that parents will not like. They may often find that they don't like the answers either, but who can or will they turn to at that point is the question. Knowing that you can mess up and still have a path to safety is important. Open hears and minds are better than running mouths. Titus 2:11-13 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing for the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;
Change does come from within and it takes more than water and a fast talking preacher. Many people go to church on Sunday and to the devil on Monday. You cannot tell a person that they are saved and that they have found God. The world would have you find God in many places. Children can see God at work in you and others. They can feel God's love in many ways if they are in situations that expose them daily. Remember that God also comes to people in the still of the night. John 14:6 Jesus said unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.
But a good person does not make you a Christian. Doing good works and going to church is a sign, but is not the means. People attempt to put away worldly things, but the flesh is weak. Mark 14:38 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation. The spirit truly is ready, but the flesh is weak. God gives you a plan and a guide to use daily in the Bible. 2 Timothy 2:15 Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. Seek like minded people and things that strengthen and exercise the spirit. The body, mind, and spirit needs to grow.
The enemy seeks to destroy and waits for no one. 1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour; There is no better time than now to let God into your life. 2 Corinthanians 6:2 For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succored thee; behold, now is the accepted time; behold now is the day of salvation. Coaches will state that one of the keys to winning a game is to know all you can about the other team. You must also know all you can about yourself. The Bible is a guide that discusses in great detail all the temptations of man. In our age of computers and mass communications, the world can reach out and touch someone in seconds. There are no new sins, just new and faster ways to perform them. The enemy knows all about you and he knows your secrets. Children need to know that God is greater. 1 John 4:4 'Greater is He that is in you, than that is in the world. Everyone needs to know there is a plan to salvation.
At what age does a child become pressured to do the wrong thing? At what age do they know right from wrong? At what age should they take responsibility? The world would say, never! It isn't their fault and besides they have a right to have fun . . . .They are only young once. Most children have some sense of right and wrong. Teens know that there are limits. "I hate you" can often become "Why didn't you tell me?" or "Why didn't you stop me?" We cannot keep kids from making mistakes, young or old. We can be there and have our ears and hearts open and our mouths shut. That the word "if" or "I told you so" don't work as well as "How can we face this as a Christian family?" Bumps in the road are real and they don't go away by ignoring them. The reward for saying "No" is often lost to a world that thinks "More: is the answer. We need to learn what means something to us. What is the "One thing?" God has a book full of answers. Can we learn to find ways to turn off the world so that we can seek His answers. Who can we communicate with that can provide the answers. We must not keep children from seeking God. Luke 18:16 But Jesus called them unto Him, and said, Suffer little children to come unto me, and forbid them not: for of such is the kingdom of God. Jesus also said that we should become as little children Matthew 18:3 And he said; I tell you the truth unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. What is it that children have, that we as adults lose? Parents must be able and willing to listen. They must seek other adults that can provide Christian guidance. The Bible is a guide that must be used daily. Children must be empowered to seek friends that are Christian and be brought up around Christians. You cannot hide children from the world, but you can surround them with prayer warriors of all ages. Proverbs 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go; and when he is old, he will not depart from it.
Parents fight a never ending battle against forces that seek ot destroy. A warrior of old would not go into battle without his full suit of armor, why should a child be sent out into a dangerous world without their full suit of armor? Ephesians 6:11-17 Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shot with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench the firey darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
The full suit starts with God and His Son Jesus. If you seek to help your child, seek first the Kingdom of Heaven through Jesus Christ.
