Covering up the Name of Jesus
According to FOX News, the White House requested Georgetown University cover their religious symbols IHS that symbolized the name of Jesus during Obama's address. This causes me to wonder why Georgetown, a Catholic University would agree to such action. Never mind the mindless drivel coming from the White House stating that "blue drapes and a host of American flags, was standard during policy and other events."
Personally, if I were in a position at Georgetown where I could respond to the White House request may go something like this:
Dear (insert name of the person making the request)
We have taken into review your request that we cover up our religious symbols while the President is on stage and in view of the cameras. We also understand that standard blue drapes and a host of American flags is standard procedure of presidential appearances during speeches.
We also are concerned perhaps that Mr. Obama may not want to offend anyone that would see these symbols, or maybe he wished to appear neutral. We will gladly cover the symbols up however, we also feel that we also do not want to offend anyone and we desire to remain neutral politically. We ask that while Mr. Obama is on stage giving his speech that he cover his head and dace with a drape.
Matthew 10:33 But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven.
Mark 8:38 Whosoever there shall be ashamed of me and my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall be the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
Luke 9:26 For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father's, and of the holy angels.
We will not cover up our symbols; therefore, we withdraw our invitation to Mr. Obama to speak at our university, as we would be ashamed to have you here.
Sadly, Georgetown did not withdraw the invitation
Those that defend Obama's actions read the scriptures above again, if you still feel the need to defend him, read the scriptures again.

There is no need to defend Obama,he is a christian himself. These are tabloid style shenanigans, designed to sell papers so you'll tune in to fox to see whats next!!The Obamas go to church where I'm sure they see these things, why would they care, that makes no sense. Exodus 20:4-5 You shall not make for yourself any carved image-likeness of anything that is in heaven,or in the earth beneath,or the water under the earth,or bow down to them, for I am a jealous God,visiting the iniquity of the fathers, upon the children to the third and fourth generations of those who hate me.The only "symbol" I see we realy need is love for one another.
Okay, if you feel you must make excuses for him.Read the verses in the original article.
Duh! If a Obama was ashamed of Jesus he wouldn't be seen going to a church where Jesus is worhiped!Only the icons in back of him were covered up all others were not.The catholic church has symbols and icons,God says this is a sin!!!!It breaks a commandment. No excuse was made for anyone,I will never have images in my home to "impress" others, that is so like the saducees, who did things publicly so others would see!
"So, I have a deep faith," Obama continues. "I'm rooted in the Christian tradition. I believe that there are many paths to the same place, and that is a belief that there is a higher power, a belief that we are connected as a people.

Many paths to the same place? Sounds like he is trying to be all things to all people to me.
People that follow that belief are following a false teacher. Perhaps Obama has been mislead. Here's more.
Part of the reason I think it's always difficult for public figures to talk about this is that the nature of politics is that you want to have everybody like you and project the best possible traits onto you," he says. "Oftentimes, that's by being as vague as possible, or appealing to the lowest common denominators. The more specific and detailed you are on issues as personal and fundamental as your faith, the more potentially dangerous it is.
"The difficult thing about any religion, including Christianity, is that at some level there is a call to evangelize and proselytize. There's the belief, certainly in some quarters, that if people haven't embraced Jesus Christ as their personal savior, they're going to hell."
Obama doesn't believe he, or anyone else, will go to hell.
http://www.suntimes.com/news/falsani/726619,obamafalsani040504.articleOh by the way, I don't have anything icons in my house either. But I would not ask a place I had been invited to, to cover them up.
From the sounds of this interview, Obama is in need of prayer, not excuses.
Many paths to the same place sounds like diversity, there ARE many paths as in, the Baptist are just as likely to get to heaven as the Lutherans ETC!As long as we accept Christ as our own personal savior, it doesn't matter what religion we are in.He is probably trying to remain neutral to not be offensive to differing religions.Like the Bible says there should be no criticizm of people for their differing views. No one gave excuses,I have never heard any denial of Christ, nor seen he act ashamed to be known as a christian. How can anyone know what is in another ones HEART or what they do to WORSHIP PRIVATELY.I pray for him,not for him to see things as I do ,but that he has the strenght to lead our nation in the right direction in all the ways we need.Jesus himself abhored the way the religious leaders"SHOWED OFF" their PUBLIC displays. He felt they cared more what others thought. To keep knit picking our leader over every little thing is truly not right. Those who think they will be first, will be last,Jesus said this to his deciples!I never knit- picked every little thing about Bush, I try to live this way in daily life.I know I am no better than anyone else on earth.I don't know if you or me or Obama will go heaven or if we will sit at Jesus feet or his right hand or somewhere way out the door but ONLY GOD KNOWS!!!It's not for us to judge in that way.
Galatians 1 6:9 I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into grace of Christ unto another gospel: Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ. But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed. As we said before, so say I now again, If any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.
If Obama is saying there is no hell, then there is no need for salvation. If there is no need for salvation then Christ came, died on the cross and rose on the third day for nothing. If Obama is trying not of offend, then he is preaching a false gospel which is far worse than trying not to offend. He is leading people to a path of destruction, that he will have to answer to the Lord for.
You are right that God knows his heart.
What I hear are the words out of Obama's mouth is not sound doctrine.
2 Timothy 4 2-5 Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering nd doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. But watch thou in all things, endure afflictions, do the work of an evangelist, make full proof of they ministry.
Defend him if you like, what he says, speaks for itself.
Obama isn't a preacher or a teacher,he is a political leader, the case for heaven or hell,is best left to religios scholars. He identified himself as a Christian who believes in Jesus as his savior. We have a diverse country to include Jews and Muslims and others who may or may not believe in heaven or hell or Jesus, this is what he brought up.The bible doesn't say we need to believe in heaven or hell, only JESUS,JESUS, JESUS,JESUS!!The same Jesus who died as much for him as for you!!Obama is not preaching or teaching anything because he isn't a preacher or teacher.HE"S A POLITITION!!!
Like I said Gilda, you go ahead and defend him all you wish.
Matthew 15:14 Let them alone: they be blind leaders of the bline. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.
