National Day of Prayer Part 1
I participated in a National Day of Prayer event located at the First Baptist Church at the Mall in Lakeland Florida. A very nice woman invited me to enter a very lovely chapel where I could read a handout guiding me in my prayers for our Government, Military, Media, Business, Education, Church and Family. "By remembering these specific prayer points, we can cover all Americans with God's power. Together, we will see positive changes."
I will be doing a seven part series based on the prayer recommendations from the National Day of Prayer and adding my own thoughts as well.
Government
Pray for our leaders, as well as the judges in our courts. Ask God to grant them wisdom to act with integrity.
1 Timothy 2:1-2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men; For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceful life in all godliness and honesty.
Proverbs 11:3 The integrity of the upright shall guide them; but the perverseness of transgressors shall destroy them.
We must continue to pray that God protects our way of life, asking that He would install in office men and women who are committed to serving their constituents with integrity. And we must remain in prayer for our elections, beseeching God to promote our fellow citizens to become involved in the process. Voting is both a duty and a privilege, and the outcomes of our political races are critical in determining the future course of our nation.
Sadly, too many people, including Christians have voted for whoever, makes the best promises; who pander to any group that will listen while telling another group just the opposite. People need to look into their background. Many people have stated about certain politicians that they did not care about the candidate's policies, only that they promised hope and change. When that happens, all too often you end up with change you didn't want, and hope has faded into despair.
Proverbs 29:2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn.
This verse reminds me why it is so important to pray for those in power in our government. As I observe what is taking place in our government and courts, it isn't any wonder why so many people are mourning. The days seem difficult, but I am reminded of this verse Romans 8:28 For we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to his purpose.
Congress has passed legislation that not such a long time ago would never have been considered, much less signed into law. I truly believe that the return of our Lord Jesus Christ is close at hand. The signs are all around us if one takes the time to look. Take time to study God's Word. Luke 21: 28 And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.
Prayer is just as important today as it ever was 1 Thessalonian 5:17-18 Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
