Maybe We Are Not Listening
I was studying the Bible last night and a verse sprang out at me like lightening in a thunderstorm. Cross-referencing passages seemed to send a message that perhaps we are not listening. While most of these verses deal with Israel, I could not help but think the Lord is still speaking to us through these scriptures. If we replace the word Israel, with the United States I think the verses shout loudly enough to those willing to listen. Micah 3:1-3 And I said, Hear, I pray you O heads of "states" and ye princes of the "United States" It is not for you to know justice? Who hate the good, and love the evil, who pluck off their skin from them, and their flesh from their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and like flesh within the cauldron. Here the government has allowed the powerful to pluck the people clean.
Micah 2:1-2Woe to them that devise iniquity, and work evil upon their beds! When the morning is light, they practice it, because it is in the power of their hand. And they covet fields, and take them by violence, and houses, and take them away; so they oppress a man his house, even a man and his heritage. Our government has bailed out businesses, the CEOs get millions of dollars in bonuses, yet the business either asks for more money or files for bankruptcy. The unemployment rate continues to rise and the economy continues to worsen. Proverbs 22:16 He that oppresses the poor to increase his riches, and he that giveth to the rich shall surely come to want.
Amos 2:6-7 Thus saith the LORD; For three transgressions of "the United States," and for four, I will not turn away its punishment, because they sold the righteous for silver, and the poor for a pair of shoes, That pant after the dust of the earth on the head of the poor, and turn aside the way of the meek, and a man and his father will go into the same maid, to profane my holy name. The Lord points out more than those in seats of power are committing sin, but also to the general population as well. Sin is sin in the eyes of the Lord, he asks people to repent, but they do not. Some people only go through the motions of honoring God with their lips but not their hearts. Amos 5:21-24 I hate, I despise your feast days, and I will not take delight in your solemn assemblies, Though ye offer me burnt offerings and your meal offerings, I will not accept them; neither will I regard the peace offerings of your fat beasts. Take away from me the noise of they song; for I will not hear the melody of thine harps. But let justice run down like waters, and righteousness like a might stream.
Now is the time for true repentance, the warning signs are everywhere. Many people shrug off the warnings. As ancient Israel did not listen, perhaps we are not listening as well.
