Obama and the Nobel Peace Prize

The polite thing to do would be to say congratulations President Obama. So Congratulations, Mr. Obama.  However, the question remains, why was Obama given the Nobel Peace Prize?  According to the Nobel Prize website in September of 2008 letters of invitation were sent out to those qualified to nominate someone for the prize. At this point Obama had not yet been elected to office.  The nominations must be postmarked no later than February 1st of 2009. Obama at this time been in office a total of 9 days.  Not very much time to get anything accomplished; unless one counts campaigning and giving speeches as a pathway to peace.

He has given speeches on his desire to rid the world of nuclear weapons, but that is all that has happened as of yet.  I do not foresee many nations willing to give up their weapons if they think they may end up like sitting ducks with hunters pointing their rifles at them ready to squeeze the trigger.  Who will be willing to give up their weapons first?

To those that believe Obama being awarded the Nobel Peace Prize award proves that he is a great President consider that Yasser Arafat was bestowed with the prize in 1994. Yasser Arafat was the chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization, not exactly a peace-loving group as Israel can attest. I am not comparing Obama to Arafat by any means; I am just making the point that one sometimes might wonder why the Nobel is given to certain people.  Does the Nobel Foundation have an agenda?

The Nobel Foundation claims that Obama has given people around the world hope.  But I say Christ has given me hope. 1 Peter 3:15 But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to given an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:  If people are placing their hope in Obama, they will be disappointed. He is human, with human failures. Only Christ can give true hope to those that call upon His name.
